Happy Birthday to me.

I took the day off work yesterday to spend my birthday lounging by the pool and dinner out with friends. I had given myself permission to goof off with out feeling guilty that I wasn't over at Moms apartment cleaning out closets, or doing housework here to tidy up and find space to store Moms things.

Monday the call came to take Mom to a hospital that specializes in geriatric patents with mental disorders like dementia or depression. I had wanted her to go but I wish I had a little more notice. It's over five hours away from her nursing facility and I can't lift her in or out of the car. (Transportation is not paid for, so family is on its own.)
I have said it before and I will say it again. I am so blessed with such good friends. DH took the day off and went with me. You know you have a great friend in someone who will spend 5 hours in a car with a women with dementia, who talked non-stop for the entire trip!

After we got Moms there and settled, I bought DH a nice dinner and we hit a casino and played the slots. We both doubled our money and headed home. We were gone from 8am to 11pm. We were both tired to the bone. What shocked me is DH still volunteered to help me get Mom back to the facility when the treatment was done!
Now that's a buddy in the first degree!

  1. That is a true friend. It's so difficult to deal with dementia- especially if it's your mother. And yay! for doubling your money!!

  4. Thanks ladies! I promised Mom if she was feeling better on the way home I would take her into a casino. She may forget what she ate 5 minutes ago but I bet she remembers that!
